10 Simple Steps
... to a Stickable New Years Resolution1. Decide what you want your resolution to be. What is your burning desire. What do you want badly enough at a gut level to work for. To make a priority in your life. 2. Write it down. 3. Make a Plan. It doesn’t have to be complicated. The simpler, the better. Want to spend quality time with your kids? Make a date night revolving each week or even month with one of them. Make Friday or Saturday night game night. It’s not hard, it just needs to become real in your mind. Just listen. When your kids talk to you, resolve to stop what you are doing and look at them. A few micro-minutes through out each day will add up beyond your wildest dreams over a lifetime. 4. Put your plan into action form. Post your resolution where you can see it often. Put your planning steps into your daily planner. Don’t want your “real” plan plastered all over the house? Make a symbol to remind yourself and plaster that where you will see it. 5. Get some support. Make it official by sharing it with someone who will hold you accountable. This can be the single most important step to sticking to your resolution (and the one we shy away from because we don’t want to be held accountable. But if you REALLY want it, this won’t bother you, so pick something you really want!) 6. Resolve to do it with the full intention that you WILL accomplish it. Make an unbreakable agreement with your self… a firm foundation, a clear and final decision that it is what you want to do. Make it your non negotiable. Your contract with yourself. 7. To be able to accomplish your resolutions it is important that you don’t choose too many. Choose one major theme at a time. If you make it your own tradition to accomplish one resolution per year, make New Year’s “your time”, you will really enjoy the season. 8. Make your own “Time” book. Collect your New Years resolutions, your plans and your accomplishments. How fun it will be to pull it out every year. 9. Share it with your kids. Maybe they will want to make one. What a treasure that will be over their lifetime. And they can be your built in support system! 10. All it takes is a little resolve. Happy New Years, this year and years to come!
